Light-Front Quantization: Religion vs. Effective Theory

by Xiangdong Ji (University of Maryland)

Description
The standard doctrine in light-front quantization has led to no essential progress in light-front QCD
for many years. I will analyze why this is the case, and point out pitfalls and essential problems. To
make pragmatic progress, one has to realize that light-front quantization is in fact an effective
theory for the high-energy structure of hadrons, not meant for solving non-perturbative field theory
in a new way or to understand the QCD vacuum with zero modes. This effective theory of QCD is so
singular that it appears the only way to begin solving it is to understand where it comes from.
