Lightfront field theory applied to intense laser-matter interactions

by Ilderton Anton (University of Plymouth)

Description
I will give an overview of the use of lightfront field theory in intense laser-matter interactions, or “strong field QED.” This is a semi-non-perturbative approach to QED in which the strong laser-matter coupling is by necessity treated without approximation. In the first part of the talk I will outline methods of calculation, and essential results from a lightfront perspective. In the second part of the talk I will focus on a particular topic, giving a complete story of why non-perturbative pair production in lightfront-time-dependent fields is so simple, and how lightfront zero modes are responsible for this.
