2022년 양자물성 세미나

Quantum materials present various many-body and topological phenomena and offer possibilities for next generation applications. Among the external perturbations to understand and activate exotic quantum phases, ultrafast light-matter interaction is considered as one promising route. The materials are excited via ultrashort femtosecond-long optical pulses and generally probed by optical measurement. In addition to the optical pump-probe techniques, X-ray arises as alternative and powerful probing method thanks to the development of modern light sources, in particular X-ray free electron lasers (XFELs).

In this talk, I would like to introduce relatively new technique: optical pump X-ray probe experiments for quantum materials research. First, an introduction of the development of XFEL facilities including PAL-XFEL, world third constructed XFEL facility among five active XFELs, will be given. Then, scientific capabilities of time-resolved X-ray scattering studies of quantum materials will be introduced. Finally, I will present several scientific examples mainly done at PAL-XFEL.
