The terahertz region of the electromagnetic spectrum between 100 πΊπ»π§ and 10 ππ»π§ (wavelength range from 3000 ππ to 30 ππ) occupies a large portion of the spectrum between the infrared and microwave bands. The terahertz region has exceptional potential for advanced electronics materials spectroscopy, space research, medicine, biology, and high data rate communications. In this talk, a recent trend on terahertz sources will be introduced along with discussions on their applications with specific development examples. The ongoing University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS)βs terahertz projects will be presented.
