Description

Quantum dots (QDs), known as semiconductor nanoparticles, are used in various fields. In order to meet the demand for high-efficiency and high-quality QDs, this research presents a new quantum dot structure called a quantum well shell. Physical properties of the core-shell (CdSe/ZnS) and quantum-well-shell (ZnS/CdSe/ZnS) QDs synthesized by a one-pot synthesis method were investigated by XRD, TEM, UV-Vis spectrophotometry, and photoluminescence.
The XRD and TEM results show that the quantum-well-shell QDs are bigger than the core-shell QDs. The Tauc plot and the UV-Vis spectrum reveal that the energy band gap of the quantum-well-shell QDs is similar with that of the core-shell QDs. In particular, the core-shell QDs in photoluminescence exhibited two peaks originating from the core and the shell portions while the quantum-well-shell QDs showed a wide range of luminescence characteristics, suggesting the quantum-well-shell QDs optical properties. From the results, one can find that the one-pot synthesis is a useful method to grow quantum-well-shell QDs with new optical properties.
