n the superconducting cables, electrical connections can occur between superconducting layers. In this study, in order to investigate the effect of the electrical connection, magnetic properties of a GdBCO superconducting ring and the rings with narrow path were compared. Interesting magnetic properties of the narrow path were observed which can be described by the focused demagnetizing effect. Global and local properties were measured by MPMS and LTSHPM, respectively.
First, to analyze the effect of the narrow path, the distribution of local magnetic field of ring and the ring with short-narrow path were compared. The area of the magnetization curve of the sample with short-narrow path was reduced. The slope of the magnetic field distribution also decreased. The narrow path can reduce screening current.
In the case of long-narrow path ring, the area of magnetization curve and the slope of local magnetic field distribution were larger than the case of short-narrow path ring. It can be understood by the effect of focused demagnetizing field on the narrow path region. The field focusing effect decreases as the length of narrow path lengthen.
As a result, the narrow path can affect to decrease the screening current, and focused demagnetizing field related to the area of magnetization curve. The local measurement results were confirmed by global measurement performed by MPMS.
